Is It Safe to Do Body Fat Testing Often? (What You Need to Know)

Some People Worry About Overdoing It — So Let’s Clear Things Up

You might be wondering…

“Is there such a thing as too much body fat testing?”
“Could scanning my body every few weeks be harmful?”
“Does Fit3D use radiation or anything risky?”

Great questions, and totally valid.

At Excel Health & Fitness in Manteca, we use Fit3D scanning, which is a completely non-invasive, radiation-free, and safe way to track your body’s changes. Here’s what that really means.

Fit3D Scanning Doesn’t Involve Radiation or Electricity

Unlike some medical scans (like DEXA or X-rays), Fit3D:

  • Does not use radiation

  • Does not send electrical currents through your body

  • Does not touch or physically interact with you

  • Does not involve any exposure to chemicals or contact

It simply uses infrared cameras to capture a 3D image of your body. That’s it.

You’re literally just standing still on a rotating platform while cameras record your shape and posture. Nothing enters your body, and nothing leaves it.

How Often Is Too Often?

Technically, you could scan every day, but that wouldn’t be helpful.

Most people benefit most from scanning:

  • Every 4 to 6 weeks during weight loss

  • Every 6 to 8 weeks when building muscle

  • Every 2 to 3 months when maintaining

Why wait? Because your body needs time to change. Scanning too often might make you obsess over tiny fluctuations instead of meaningful trends.

Is There a Risk of “Obsessing” Over Results?

Only if you’re scanning for the wrong reasons.

Body composition tracking is a tool, not a scoreboard. When used with the right mindset, it helps you:

  • Stay motivated

  • Adjust your habits

  • Celebrate progress that the scale can’t show

We always remind clients: you are not your number. Use the scan as feedback, not judgment.

Safe for All Ages and Body Types

Fit3D is safe for:

  • Adults of all sizes

  • Teens (with parent/guardian approval)

  • Postpartum recovery

  • Pre/post-surgery progress

  • Anyone cleared for light physical activity

If you can stand still for about 60 seconds, you can use it.
