Thinking about joining Excel? Start here.
If you're considering CrossFit, or just want a gym that actually helps you get results, you probably have a few questions:
Let's walk through all of it so you can decide if Excel is the right fit for you.
How much does CrossFit cost in Manteca?
Our memberships range from $152 to $239/month, depending on your level of commitment and any discounts. Most members fall into one of these options:
$199/mo
6-month agreement
$179/mo
12-month agreement
$169/mo
18-month agreement
10% off for family members. The longer the commitment, the lower the monthly rate, because consistency is what actually drives results.
| Membership | Monthly | Commitment | What is included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unlimited | $199 | 6-month | All coached classes, On-Ramp beginners package, full community access |
| Unlimited | $179 | 12-month | All coached classes, On-Ramp beginners package, full community access |
| Unlimited | $169 | 18-month | All coached classes, On-Ramp beginners package, full community access |
| Family add-on | 10% off | Flexible | Same access for additional family members |
Memberships range from $152 to $239 per month depending on options. Every plan includes our On-Ramp Beginners Package (4 private coaching sessions), a $480 value, at no extra cost. Payments may be eligible for HSA or FSA reimbursement.
Worth knowing: a cheap gym you do not use is the most expensive option there is. It costs you a year and gets you nowhere. Coaching you actually stick with is the faster, cheaper path to the result you want.
What new members get
Every new member starts with our On-Ramp Beginners Package: 4 one-on-one coaching sessions. You will learn movements, technique, and how classes work, and build confidence before joining group classes. That is $480 worth of personal training, included at no extra cost when you sign up. You don't need to be in shape to start. That's exactly what this is for.
It's coaching, not just access
At Excel, you're not just paying for access, you're paying for coaching. Every class includes a professional coach leading the entire hour, warm-ups tailored to that day's workout, movement instruction and demonstrations, individual modifications based on your ability, real-time coaching and feedback, and long-term programming designed for results.
That's why our members don't just start, they stick with it and actually see progress.
More than a $10 gym
You can join a traditional gym for $10 to $30/month. But most people never get the results they want there. Why? Because they're on their own.
At Excel, you get coaching every time you walk in, a clear plan to follow, accountability and consistency, and a community that supports you. Most people don't fail because they lack access, they fail because they don't have a plan or anyone holding them accountable.
Excel vs. other fitness options
vs. a traditional gym
- Coaching, not figuring it out yourself
- A structured plan, not random workouts
- Consistent results, not starting and stopping
vs. OrangeTheory / F45
- Individualized coaching, not one-size-fits-all
- Strength and conditioning, not mostly cardio
- Movement instruction, not follow-along
vs. personal training
- More affordable
- Community-driven
- Still coached every session
Do you need to be in shape to start?
No. This is one of the biggest misconceptions about CrossFit. At Excel, we follow a simple progression:
That means you learn how to move correctly, you build consistency, and THEN you increase intensity. Every workout is scaled and modified to your level. We regularly work with complete beginners, people returning after years off, and adults 40, 50, 60 and up. You start where you are, not where you think you should be.
Why some people think CrossFit isn't for them
A lot of people hesitate to try CrossFit because they think it's too intense, they'll get hurt, they need to be in shape first, or it's only for really fit people. And to be fair, in some gyms, those concerns are valid. Not every CrossFit gym prioritizes coaching, technique, and proper progression. That's where we're different.
At Excel, we follow a clear progression: Mechanics, then Consistency, then Intensity. You learn movements the right way first, you build consistency over time, and only then do you increase intensity. Every workout is scaled to your ability, and every class is fully coached from start to finish.
When CrossFit might NOT be right for you
We'll be honest, CrossFit (even here) isn't for everyone. It may not be a good fit if you're looking for the lowest-cost option, you don't want coaching or feedback, you're not open to being challenged, or you're not ready to be consistent. But if you want guidance, structure, and long-term results, this is exactly what CrossFit is designed for.
What kind of results do people get?
This is where things get real.
We've had multiple members lose 100+ pounds in a single year.
Members have improved bloodwork enough to avoid medication.
One member reversed high cholesterol in 6 months training just 2x per week.
Another improved markers related to fatty liver in 6 months.
Members report major improvements in mental health, energy, and confidence.
A spouse joins because they see how much happier and more confident their partner has become.
This isn't just about fitness, it's about quality of life.

More than a gym
We're proud to be one of the first CrossFit Medical Society Community Health Hubs. That means we partner with physicians for advanced labs and guidance, and physical therapists for faster access to care. Our goal isn't just workouts, it's long-term health.
See the Health Hub →What an hour looks like
Every class is 1 hour, fully coached: a warm-up based on the workout, movement instruction and teaching, workout explanation and scaling, the workout with coaching throughout, and a cool down. We offer 8 classes per day Monday through Friday plus weekends. You can also use open gym anytime we're open, but most members prefer classes for the coaching and structure.

Common questions, answered
How do I get started?
The first step is simple, just fill out the form on this page. From there, a coach will reach out to learn about your goals, answer any questions, and help you schedule your free intro. We'll walk you through everything step by step.
What if I've never done CrossFit before?
That's completely normal, most of our members started the same way. Every new member begins with our On-Ramp Program, which includes one-on-one coaching sessions to teach you movements, build confidence, and prepare you for classes. You won't be thrown into a class without knowing what to do.
What if I have an injury or limitations?
No problem. Every workout is modified based on your ability, experience, and any limitations. We also work closely with local physical therapists and healthcare providers to make sure you can train safely and effectively.
How often should I come?
Most members start with 3 to 4 days per week. Consistency matters more than intensity, and we'll help you find a schedule that works for your life and goals.
Do I have to come every day?
No. You'll get great results without training every day. In fact, recovery is an important part of the process. We'll guide you on what makes sense based on your goals.
What are your class times?
We offer multiple classes throughout the day: 5:15am, 6:30am, 8:30am, 9:30am, 12:00pm, 4:00pm, 5:00pm, and 6:00pm, plus weekend classes. This makes it easy to find a time that fits your schedule.
Can I work out on my own?
Yes, members have access to open gym during operating hours. That said, most people get the best results by attending coached classes, which is what we specialize in.
Do you offer programs for kids or older adults?
Yes. We offer kids programs (starting at age 5), athletic development for teens, and specialized classes for adults 60 and up. Each program is designed to be safe, effective, and age-appropriate.
What amenities do you have? Showers? Child care?
Our facility includes locker rooms and showers, supervised child care, a comfortable lobby and lounge area, and 10,500 square feet of space. We've built the space to be clean, welcoming, and functional.
Do you offer nutrition or additional coaching?
Yes. We offer additional support like nutrition guidance and access to trusted professionals to help you improve your overall health, not just your workouts.
Can I pause my membership?
Yes, we understand life happens. Talk to us and we'll work with you on options if you need to pause temporarily.
What happens after I fill out the form?
A real coach (not a salesperson) will reach out to you. We'll answer your questions, learn about your goals, and help you decide if this is the right fit. If it is, we'll help you get started. If it's not, we'll tell you that too.
We've had members here since 2008.
